Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (MAHAGENCO) is set to commission solar power projects with a total capacity of 1,071 MW. The initiative, aimed at reducing dependence on conventional energy and ensuring uninterrupted daytime electricity for irrigation, is expected to benefit over three lakh farmers across Maharashtra.
MAHAGENCO, India’s second-largest state-owned power producer after NTPC, is leading the implementation of the Solar Agriculture Feeder Scheme 2.0. The scheme is a flagship initiative of the Maharashtra government that seeks to boost farmers’ financial growth while lowering electricity service costs.
Under Mission 2025, the government aims to solarise 30 percent of agricultural feeders by the end of 2025. Solar projects ranging from 0.5 MW to 25 MW will be established within a five to 10 km radius of distribution substations with agricultural loads. A strategic joint committee will be formed to oversee implementation, while MAHAGENCO and the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet will develop a central dashboard to track land acquisition and project execution.<
