Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) will float bids for the 32.5 km Mumbai Metro-III line within a week.

The line between Cuffe Parade in South Mumbai and Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone at Andheri will cost Rs 23,136 crore. MMRC will select the bidder for the detailed design and construction of underground stations and associated tunnels on the Mumbai Metro-III line soon. Construction work is expected to begin from April 2015 and scheduled to be commissioned in 2020-2021.

The total project cost will be funded by the Maharashtra government (Rs 4,017 crore), Centre (Rs 3,428 crore), and JICA (Rs 13,325 crore). Recently, JICA signed an agreement with the government of India for furnishing the first tranche of Rs 4,553 crore.

Mumbai Metro-III will consist of 26 underground stations and the civil work is divided into seven contract packages.

MMRC has received nods for the 40 km Dahisar-Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd line (Rs 25,605 crore) and a 32 km Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarvadavali corridor (Rs 19,097 crore). It is expected to be commissioned by 2020-2021.

In June 2014, the Mumbai Metro-I project became operational. The 11.4 km Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar east-west corridor has 12 elevated stations.
