Nagpur Metro's Phase 2 expansion is nearing a key milestone, with the proposed 1.3-km extension of the Kamptee corridor set to be presented to Maharashtra’s Chief Secretary for final state-level approval next month. The extension, which takes the line beyond Automotive Square to Kanhan village, includes a 500-mtrs. steel viaduct over the Kanhan River—a vital infrastructure element that will extend the total Phase 2 network beyond 45 km and increase the number of stations on the Kamptee route from 12 to 13.
MahaMetro officials confirmed that the project report was submitted to the state government in April. Following the Chief Secretary's briefing, the proposal will be sent to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) for Central clearance. “The extension is a strategic addition that will enhance last-mile connectivity for thousands of residents in the Kanhan area,” a senior official said.
The extension is estimated to cost around Rs 300 crore. Construction is expected to begin once approvals are secured. Meanwhile, work continues across other Phase 2 corridors, with stations like Lok Vihar targeted for completion by November 2025. Over 90 percent of the land acquisition for Phase 2 is already completed.
