Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, visited the Namrup Fertiliser Plant in Assam to review ongoing expansion projects on 23 November, 2025.
The plant, under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, is set to receive a significant boost with an investment of over Rs 10,000 crore to develop a new Ammonia-Urea complex. This initiative aims to enhance agricultural productivity, generate large-scale employment, and strengthen industrial infrastructure in the region. A fourth plant will be established at the site, expanding production capacity to 12.5 lakh tonne per annum. The new facility is expected to serve farmers across Northeast India and contribute to exports to neighbouring countries like Bhutan and Myanmar.
Minister Sonowal emphasised the project’s potential to position the Northeast as a key industrial hub in Southeast Asia. "Under the dynamic leadership of PM Narendra Modi ji, our Namrup Fertiliser Plant, the pride of Assam, is getting a new lease of life with the new brownfield Ammonia-Urea complex," he said.
