Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), India's newest aviation hub, is set to commence commercial operations from 25 December, 2025.
The inauguration, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 8, marks the beginning of a phased operational rollout aimed at prioritising passenger safety, reliability, and comfort. The airport will cater to the growing aviation demands of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). During its first month, NMIA will operate 12 hours daily, from 08:00 to 20:00 hrs, managing 23 scheduled daily departures. The airport will handle up to 10 flight movements per hour in this initial phase.
NMIA is conducting comprehensive Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) trials with stakeholders, including security agencies like the CISF, which was deployed on 29 October 2025. NMIAL, the special purpose vehicle overseeing the airport's development and operation, is leading this greenfield project in Navi Mumbai. "NMIA will play a crucial role in boosting the connectivity and capacity of MMR’s aviation infrastructure," said an official spokesperson.
