The Ministry of State
for Power has stated that three mega coal-based power plants with a total
investment of Rs.40,000 crore will come up in Orissa in the next five years.
National Thermal Power
Corporation (NTPC) will set up two power plants of 3,200 MW each at Daralipalli
in Sundargarh district and Gajmara in Dhenkanal district with investment of
Rs.12,000 crore each. NTPC also plans to expand the existing 460 MW Talcher
Thermal Power Station with the addition of two units of 660 MW each.
The third plant, a
4,000 MW coal-based ultra mega power project (UMPP) will be set up at an outlay
of Rs.16,000 crore at Bedabahal in Sundargarh district. The UMPP will be
established by either a private company or central PSUs, through a bidding
process.
