Odisha Thermal Power Corporation (OTPCL), a 50:50 JV of Odisha Mining Corporation and Odisha Hydro Power Corporation, has acquired private land at a cost of Rs 184.52 crore, for its coal-based power plant at Kamakhyanagar in Dhenkanal district of Orissa.
The project, estimated to cost Rs 17,000 crore, will come up over 1,767.90 acre. Of the total required land, 1,074.95 acre is private land, 684.25 acre is government land, and 8.7 acre is forest land. The power plant, with a total of 2,400 MW capacity, will be developed in three phases, with each phase having 800 MW capacity.
The private land is to be acquired in 10 project-affected villages. Orders under Section 7 (1) of the Land Acquisition Act have been issued in nine villages. It is pending for one village.
Further, the company has inked the power purchase agreement (PPA) for the project, with Gridco.
Meanwhile, OTPCL has also invited bids to prepare a master plan for setting up the power project. (Tender)
