SAIL has commissioned the rebuilt coke ovens battery (No 2) at its Durgapur steel plant (DSP) in Bardhaman district of West Bengal.
On 2 December 2013, the company commenced operations. Rebuilding of the battery was part of SAIL's modernisation and expansion plan at Durgapur. The battery was rebuilt at a cost of Rs 213 crore.
The company is modernising its Durgapur steel plant with an investment of Rs 3,000 crore. The project envisages raising the hot metal capacity from the current 1.98 million tpa to 3.5 million tpa.
Post expansion, DSP is expected to improve the finished component in its product basket from the present level of 36 per cent to 64 per cent.
