Sasan Power, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Power, has commenced power generation from Unit-III of its coal-based Ultra Mega Power Plant (UMPP) located at Sasan, in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh.
The project has a total capacity of 3,960 MW and will be developed in six units, each having a capacity of 660 MW. The total cost of the project is Rs 20,000 crore.
After the commencement of power production from Unit-III, the capacity of the Sasan UMPP has reached 1,980 MW.
The balance three units of the project are in an advanced stage of construction and are likely to be commissioned in the next few months.
Unit-II of the plant commenced commercial operations in January 2014.
