Satlej Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVNL), has commenced work at its greenfield thermal power plant at Chausa in Buxar district of Bihar.
The project, with 1,320 MW capacity, has been allotted a coal block located at Deocha Pachmi in Birbhum district in West Bengal by the Coal Ministry. Besides, 1,048 acre of private land and 16 acre of government land required for the project have already been acquired by the Bihar Government. The project, estimated to cost Rs 6,791.36 crore, comprises two units of 660 MW each. Unit-I of the project is expected to be commissioned within 41 months from the start of project work.
Earlier, the company had signed an MoU with Bihar State Power (Holding) Company and Bihar Power Infrastructure Company for setting up the plant on BOO basis. A total 85 per cent of power generated from the project will be supplied to Bihar State Power (Holding) Company.
Water requirement for the project will be met from the Ganga, which flows about 4-5 km away from the project site. The approval for usage of 56 cusecs water from the river has already been obtained from the Union Government.
