Tata Steel has now made up its mind to set up only a ferro-alloy plant at Gopalpur in the coastal district of Ganjam, south Orissa.
At present, the company is looking forward to setting up a 50,000 tpa ferro-alloy plant in Gopalpur, if no further hurdles affect the project.
Earlier, in 2011, the company had plans to establish both, a 50,000 tpa ferro-alloy plant, and a 0.5 million tpa hot rolling mill (HRM) in the town located in Ganjam district.
In the year 1990, Tata Steel had acquired more than 4,000 acre for setting up a steel plant at Gopalpur, but due to lack of Infrastructure and availability of water at the location, the company had to drop its plan to set up the unit.
