Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has announced that seven new bypass roads have been proposed across key towns in the state to reduce traffic congestion and improve connectivity.
Speaking at the National Seminar on Infrastructure Development in the North-East Region, held at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala, CM Saha emphasised the government's focus on linking all district and subdivision headquarters, as well as unconnected villages, to the national highway network via double-lane roads. “Without infrastructure, nothing can be achieved. Roads, highways, airports, water supply, and urban infrastructure play a key role in industrial growth, service expansion, and social welfare,” Saha said.
The proposed bypasses are planned at Kumargarh, Dhanpur, Manu, Ambassa, Teliamura, Ranirbazar, and Jirania—areas currently facing heavy congestion due to national highways passing through them. Additionally, a 449 km ring road for Agartala has been proposed under the Bharatmala scheme, along with flyovers, starting with the Radhanagar to IGM Hospital corridor.
The state’s road network includes 10,618.423 km of PWD roads, with 923 km of national highways. Over Rs 7,000 crore was allocated in the previous budget for infrastructure development, reflecting Tripura’s long-term commitment to socio-economic growth.
