The West Bengal government has approved the establishment of a 660MW thermal power plant in Durgapur, which will be developed under a revenue-sharing model.
According to officials, the tendering process will begin after Durga Puja, with the power department likely to invite expressions of interest. "The govt will provide the land as well as common facilities like ash ponds and coal handling plants, etc. In addition, the state will also ensure the necessary coal linkages with Coal India Limited (CIL)," a source said. The project will be executed through a tariff-based bidding system, where the selected private party will invest in the plant.
The West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company (WBSEDCL) will purchase the entire power generated through a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) at a mutually agreed tariff.
