The Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC), has commenced work on the coal-fired thermal power station at Ib Thermal Power Station, Banharpalli, in Jharsuguda district, Orissa.
OPGC, a joint venture between the Orissa government and AES Corporation of USA, is executing an expansion project with a capacity of 1,320 MW (2X660 MW) (Units-3 & 4) with a total investment of Rs 11,547 crore. OPGC had earlier signed contracts with Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL), and with BGR Energy Systems (BGRE), on 27th April and 11th July, 2013 respectively, for the work on the main plant (boiler, turbine and generator) worth Rs 4,051 crore, and balance of plant (BoP) worth Rs 1,573 crore.
The project had secured financial tie-up with Power Finance Corporation (PFC), and Rural Electrification Corporation (REC), in November 2012. It has also received the necessary clearances. The project is expected to be commissioned by 2017.
