On 23 April 2014, JSW Steel inaugurated Phase-I of its cold rolling mill-2 facility at Vijayanagar, in Bellary district of Karnataka.
The project, with 2.3 million tpa, was set up with an investment of Rs 4,500 crore. It has been set up in technical collaboration with Japan's JFE Steel.
The cold rolling mill-2 is capable of producing high strength and advanced high strength steel, in both, uncoated and coated (galvanized and galvannealed GI and GA) categories, and wider width upto 1,870 mm. It also includes a continuous annealing line.
Phase-II of the cold rolling mill-2 plant, consisting of 0.95 million tpa continuous annealing line (CAL-2) is expected to be commissioned during the first half of FY16.
The cold rolling mill-1 was already commissioned in 2006 and manufactures special steel for under body parts in passenger cars.
