Tamil Nadu Generation & Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) has received the green nod from the Ministry of Environment & Forests for its Ennore SEZ coal-based power plant at Vayalur in Thiruvallur district of the state.
The project envisages setting up a 1,600 MW (2 x 800 MW) power plant at a cost of Rs 9,180 crore. The power plant will require 500 acre land, out of which 130 acre will be developed under a green belt and 40 acre will be used for external corridor including sea water and coal conveyor.
Further, the company has inked an MoU with MMTC for supply of required coal from Indonesia. It requires importing 4.26 million tpa coal.
