The Australian government has approved Adani Mining’s coal and rail project in Queensland.
The Carmichael coal and rail project is estimated to cost Australian $16.5 billion (approx Rs 92,920.53 crore). The Carmichael coal mine is proposed to become Australia's largest coal mine, producing 60 million tonne per annum.
The project had sparked protests from entities concerned about export of the coal from a port near the Great Barrier Reef. The approval was given subject to strict conditions to protect groundwater, thus ensuring protection of the environment.
