Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL), on Tuesday announced that it had secured an order for a 444 MW hydroelectric project in Uttarakhand. The total value of this order is Rs 422 crore and has been awarded by Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDCIL).
Located in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, Vishnugad Pipalkoti, the HEP is a run-of-the-river scheme on the Alaknanda. The project comprises four hydro-generating sets of 111 MW capacity each, with vertical Francis turbines and matching hydro generators. As per the contract, the scope of work is engineering, procurement and construction of all hydro generating sets and associated electro mechanical works. The projects need to be executed in 48 months.
This 444 MW hydroelectric project in Uttarakhand is the second major order secured by BHEL in 2014 in this state. In March this year, it won an order for the 2x60 MW HEP from Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam (UJVNL).
