Bihar is proposed to get a 4,000 MW Ultra Mega Power Plant (UMPP) along with sufficient coal block allocations as announced by the Union Power Minister, Piyush Goyal, on 15 November, 2014.
On the same day, the Union Minister also inaugurated the commercial launch of the 660 MW Unit-IV of the Barh Super Thermal-Based Power Project (STPP), Stage-II, in Patna, and the commercial operation of the 110 MW Unit-II of the Muzaffarpur Thermal Power Project - Renovation - (Stage-I).
The 1,320 MW (2x660 MW) Barh STPP - Stage-II is partially completed with likely completion in April 2015. It was also announced that four more 660 MW units would be set up at the Barh STPP, which would take its power production capacity to 3,300 MW. These units will be completed in the next four years.
The 390 MW (2x195 MW) stage-II of the Muzaffarpur thermal power project is likely to be completed in July 2015.
The Union Minister also said that approval would be sought for the 132 MW hydel project at Baghmara, in Supaul district.
