The Union Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) has granted environment clearance for the proposed 500 MW (2 x 250 MW) coal-based power project at Barauni, in Begusarai district of Bihar.
Approval from the Ministry, which was pending since October 2013, has paved the way for the commencement of work on construction of the coal-based power plant in the state.
The project, worth Rs 3,666 crore, has been undertaken by Bihar State Power Holding Company and the power generated by the plant will be supplied to the state of Bihar.
The environment clearance granted for the project will be valid for five years from the date of issue of the letter to start operations by the power plant.
Earlier, the expected date for the commissioning of Unit-I of the plant was June 2014, and Unit-II was scheduled to be completed after four months of the synchronization of Unit-I.
The Centre has approved tapering coal linkages to the project from Eastern Coalfields till the allocated coal block (Urma Pahari tola) becomes operational.
