The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has made a substantial allocation of Rs 3,200 crore for roads projects in its annual budget for 2015-16.
This is a whopping Rs 891 crore increase in allocation as compared to the Rs 2,309 crore which was allocated last year.
The Coastal Road project and Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) have been allocated Rs 200 crore and Rs 300 crore respectively.
The consultancy work for preparations of the feasibility report, the DPR preparation, report of the environmental studies and obtaining the environment clearances for the Coastal Road project are in an advanced stage of finalisation. Funds for this project will be made available from the fungible FSI funds.
The 14.66 km GMLR project will be the third link in the city to connect the western and eastern suburbs, for which the consultant’s detailed project report is in progress.
The construction of new flyovers at Mith Chowky, Malad, and Bangur Nagar, Goregaon, have also been proposed in the new budget.
The bridges department has been provided with funds of Rs 357 crore, while, the civic body allocated Rs 1,120 crore and Rs 1,854 crore for the restoration of cement, concrete and asphalt roads, in the budget.
