Canada-based auto parts maker and contract manufacturer, Magna International, is planning to open two new plants in Gujarat.
One of the facilities will be spread over 2,15,000 sq ft and will manufacture seat systems.
The second facility will spread over 3,65,000 sq ft and will manufacture the vehicle body and chassis for multiple customers.
Both sites are expected to start producing in 2015.
Once these two new units are open, Magna will have 11 manufacturing facilities and four engineering centres in India. Overall, Magna has 317 manufacturing operations and 83 product development, engineering and sales centres in 29 countries.
The company's product capabilities include production of body, chassis, interior, exterior, seating, powertrain, electronic, vision, closure and roof systems and modules, as well as complete vehicle engineering and contract manufacturing.
Magna International has also inked a pact with Tata AutoComp Systems to form a 50:50 joint venture (JV). The JV will be headquartered in Pune and will provide seating systems to the commercial vehicle industry in the country.
