Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) is planning to augment the capacity of its Raigarh plant in Chhattisgarh.
JSPL will raise the steel-making capacity to seven million tpa in two phases from the current three million tpa. The expansion is estimated to cost Rs 24,000 crore.
In the Phase I, JSPL intends to expand the plant capacity by four million tpa with Rs 15,000 crore investment and three million tpa will be raised in Phase II with Rs 9,000 crore. The Phase I is expected to be completed within three years after the commencement of work.
However, work can resume only after it gets the issue of plant location sorted out with the state government. JSPL has requested the state government to allow the proposed capacity expansion at the existing location of its steel plant while, the state has been insisting on setting up a new plant at a separate location keeping in mind the need for development of other parts of the state.
