Nine companies have evinced interest to develop the proposed coal-based ultra mega power project at Bedhabahal in Sundergarh district of Orissa.
The nine companies - Larsen & Toubro, Jindal Power, JSW Energy, Sterlite Energy, Adani Power, Tata Power, NHPC, NTPC, and CLP India - have submitted their technical bids for the project.
The project, estimated to cost Rs 25,000 crore, will have 4,000 MW capacity. Coal and water linkages for the project are in place while land acquisition is underway. Power Finance Corporation (PFC), the nodal agency for UMPPs, will evaluate technical bids and, based on the bids, shortlist candidates for the next round of bidding.
PFC has offered two ultra mega power projects in September 2013, including one at Cheyyur in Tamil Nadu, to developers under the new bid guidelines. Technical bid submission for the Cheyyur power plant will close on 28 November, 2013.
