NTPC has given its approval to an investment for a coal-based power plant which is to come up at North Karanpura, in Chatra district of Jharkhand.
The NTPC board of directors has approved the investment of Rs 14,366.58 crore to set up this plant.
The project, having a capacity of 1,980 MW, will have three units of 660 MW each, and will be spread over 890 acre.
The Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) had granted environment clearance to the reworked plan for the power project, on 25 February, 2014.
Apart from this, NTPC's consultancy wing has won a contract to provide services to Trincomalee Power Company for establishing two units of the 250 MW coal-based power project at Trincomalee, in Sri Lanka. An agreement for the same was signed between NTPC and Trincomalee Power in Colombo.
