Power Company of Karnataka (PCKL), a state-owned company will issue request for proposals (RfPs) soon to 22 bidders qualified for its Gulbarga coal based supercritical thermal power project.
PCKL will issue RfPs for the proposed Gulbarga project as soon as legal department gives the clearance. PCKL is planning to set up 2X660 MW coal-based power project over 2,000 acre at Jewargi in Gulbarga district of Karnataka. The enterprise is estimated to cost Rs 7,500 crore and has been proposed under the Case-2 bidding framework, according to the competitive bidding guidelines. In Case-2 bidding, the central or the state government will assist private developers in securing land, water and mandatory clearances for setting up large power plants.
PCKL is an SPV formed by the state to bridge the widening gap between demand and supply by capacity addition through the competitive bidding route. The Gulbarga project is the first to be taken up by PCKL under the competitive bid route.
Private players like Tata Power, GMR Energy, Jindal Power, Shree Cement, GVK Industries, Adani Power and Reliance have evinced interest in setting up the project.
