With rising freight traffic from industrial zones east of Bengaluru and increasing congestion for daily commuters, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to widen the Bengaluru–Kolar stretch of NH-75 into a 10-lane highway. The expansion will feature six central lanes for through traffic and two service lanes on either side, ensuring long-term regional development and smoother traffic flow.
The 69-km project, extending from Hoskote (32 km from Bengaluru) to the Andhra Pradesh border near Kolathur, will integrate with the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) and the partially opened Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway. “The widening will streamline traffic heading to Kolar, Bangarpet, and Mulbagal, and ease freight movement to Narasapura industrial area,” said an NHAI official. Access-controlled entry and exit points are being considered.
The Hoskote toll plaza currently handles over 45,000 vehicles daily, while the KR Pura–Hoskote stretch remains heavily congested. A proposed elevated corridor here awaits clearance. Meanwhile, the Katamanallur flyover is 85 percent complete and partially open. A 20-km expressway link from Hoskote to Tamil Nadu near Hosur is also nearing completion and is expected to open by August.
