The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) plans to construct a 104-km greenfield access-controlled expressway connecting the under-construction Vadhvan Port in Palghar district to the Mumbai–Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg at Bharvir, near Igatpuri.
This infrastructure aims to improve freight movement from central Maharashtra to the west coast while bypassing Mumbai’s congested roadways. According to a senior MSRDC official, "The alignment has been submitted to the state government for approval. Once we get the nod, land acquisition will begin."
Tendering will commence only after significant progress is made on the Vadhvan Port project. The expressway will start at Bharvir Khurd near Igatpuri and link to National Highway 48 at Tawa village near Charoti. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will develop a new road stretch from Charoti to Vadhvan Port.
Once complete, the expressway is expected to cut travel time between Igatpuri and Vadhvan Port to just an hour and 15 minutes. The government is reviewing proposals for a greenfield airport adjacent to the Vadhvan Port, enhancing the area’s logistical capabilities.
