The Kerala government is looking forward to setting up a genetics laboratory in Thiruvananthapuram district of the state.
The laboratory will help in diagnosing diseases in children at the prenatal stage. This new facility will be established at the Child Development Centre (CDC) in Kerala.
The Cabinet has allotted Rs 3.80 crore for the genetics lab and has also proposed to set up IVF treatment units in five medical colleges in the state.
Under the Karunya Dialysis Centre scheme, four hospitals in the district, including Taluk headquarters hospital, Chirayinkeezhu; Neyyattinkara district hospital; District Hospital Nedumangad; and Fort Hospital Thiruvananthapuram will get new dialysis units.
Steps will be taken to provide a dialysis unit at the Valiyakunnu hospital in Attingal if the facilities are available and the hospital is cleared by the state-level committee.
