The Konkan Irrigation Development Corporation (KIDC) has instructed the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and four municipal bodies to allocate funds for the Rs 6,394 crore Poshir dam project, which will be developed in Karjat taluka, Raigad district of Maharashtra.
The dam, designed as a stone and clay structure, will have a storage capacity of 349 million cubic mtrs., aiming to supplement the existing Barvi dam and address growing water demands in the region. The beneficiaries of the project include the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), which will bear the largest share at Rs 2,783 crore followed by MMRDA with Rs 2,171.45 crore. Other contributions will come from Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation with Rs 611.28 crore, Badlapur Municipal Council with Rs 375.97 crore, and Rs 452 crore from Ambarnath Municipal Council.
KIDC Executive Engineer Vinod Munjappa emphasised the need for the beneficiaries to contribute their shares in the upcoming financial year. The proposal was sanctioned during the March Legislative session after receiving administrative and technical approvals. The Urban Development Department will facilitate funding as per the Chief Minister’s directives.
