Metro Line 8, designed to link Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) with the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), has made significant progress with the finalisation of its alignment.
Being developed by CIDCO, this Metro line will create a seamless intra-city network for Navi Mumbai, connecting key suburbs. The corridor will feature 11 stations within Navi Mumbai, starting from Mankhurd, crossing the Vashi Creek bridge, and running along the Sion–Panvel Highway to serve stations like Nerul, Seawoods, and Ulwe, before terminating inside the NMIA campus. The project, now proceeding under a public-private partnership model, is part of the MMRDA's 337-km Regional Metro plan.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated NMIA, with commercial operations set for 25 December. "This metro line will provide much-needed connectivity to some of the region’s most significant economic hubs," an official stated.
