The Mohali-Kurali bypass of the Chandigarh-Ambala Greenfield Corridor has been delayed once again, with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) now targeting a November-end opening for Package 2.
Though 97 percent of the work is complete, pending utility shifting and installation of an extra high-tension (EHT) line have pushed the deadline. NHAI officials are optimistic about opening the corridor before December, barring weather-related issues. This marks the fourth extension for the Rs 1,525.3 crore project, intended to decongest Mohali’s Airport Road and provide a direct, high-speed route from Chandigarh’s IT City to Kurali. Once completed, the expressway will also enhance connectivity to Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
Package 1, linking IT City Chowk to Ambala via the 152D Jaipur and Delhi expressways, is expected by 31 March, 2026. The project, under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, replaced the costlier 40-km Kharar-Banur-Tepla road plan and was awarded to a Maharashtra-based firm in October 2022.
