The Pollachi-Dindigul four-lane highway project, costing Rs 3,649 crore, is progressing rapidly with 95 percent of the work completed and is expected to be ready by December.
This 131.96 km stretch, part of the Central government’s Bharatmala Pariyojana and executed by NHAI, will enhance connectivity between Pollachi, Dindigul, and Coimbatore, significantly reducing travel time and easing traffic congestion. Key construction activities are ongoing on bridges, flyovers, and service roads, including a notable 2,166-mtrs. segment near Achipatti. The highway will bypass about 80 percent of congested town centres, diverting heavy vehicles and reducing urban traffic jams, especially in Pollachi town.
However, heavy northeast monsoon rains could delay completion to March next year. Authorities are working to accelerate final construction phases. The project involved extensive land acquisition, compensation, and clearing of structures. Local activists have called for swift completion, emphasizing the highway’s potential to boost regional economic growth and convenience for commuters. Keywords
