Vehicle movement on the congested Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road (AGLR) will improve with the construction of a cable-stayed bridge linking Ghatkopar East and West, intersecting Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Marg.
Jointly developed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MRIDC), the bridge replaces a 45-year-old Railway Over Bridge (ROB) declared unfit in 2018. Spanning 216 metres in length and 11 metres in width, the six-lane structure will be Mumbai’s first suburban cable-stayed ROB. Costing Rs 350 crore, it is slated for completion in 2027.
The project is being executed in two phases to maintain partial traffic flow — one arm is rebuilt while the other remains operational. Once complete, it will cut travel time, ease congestion on LBS Marg, and enhance east-west suburban connectivity.
Designed with aesthetic lighting, footpaths, and service roads for pedestrians and emergency vehicles, it also aims to visually uplift the area. This will be the third major cable-stayed bridge in Mumbai, joining the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and Reay Road Bridge, alongside Metro One’s WEH-Andheri link.
