The Rs 605-crore drinking water project aimed at supplying safe water to over one lakh households across 831 habitations in Radhapuram and Nanguneri Assembly segments is slated for commissioning by end of October, said Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M Appavu.
The project’s source is an infiltration well sunk in the Tamirabharani River at Mela Muneerpallam, which will pump water to the purification unit at Singikulam near Kalakkad. For uninterrupted operations, 297 electric poles have been installed to power the pumping stations at Mula Muneerpallam. Speaker Appavu, along with Tirunelveli District Collector R Sukumar, TWAD Board officials, and the project contractor, reviewed the progress at the Collectorate on 02 September, 2025.
He highlighted that the project is designed to cater to a population of over three lakh residents in 831 habitations, covering areas in Palayamkottai, Cheranmahadevi, Radhapuram, and Nanguneri. The initiative is part of the state’s commitment to improving drinking water infrastructure and ensuring reliable water supply to rural and semi-urban communities.
