In a bid to decongest Bhubaneswar's growing traffic, the Odisha government is planning a four-lane expressway connecting Rasulgarh to Raghunathpur.
The proposed corridor aims to offer a faster alternative to the heavily congested Jayadev Vihar-Nandankanan road, improving connectivity between key residential and institutional zones. Envisioned as a high-speed link from NH-16 in Rasulgarh to the northern belt around Nandankanan and Raghunathpur, the road is expected to reduce travel time by 30–40 percent and streamline vehicle movement between the city's southern and northern regions without entering the central areas.
The Odisha Bridge and Construction Corporation (OBCC) has initiated the process for a feasibility study and detailed project report (DPR), which will include traffic forecasts, environmental impact, and land requirements. While the route is yet to be finalised, officials suggest it may run parallel to the Chandaka-Patia belt, touching IT and institutional hubs. The project will also include service roads, pathways, and infrastructure for future expansion, aligning with the government’s integrated urban mobility plans.
