Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, will visit Puducherry today to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for multiple infrastructure projects.
The visit will commence with the inauguration of a Rs 436 crore, four-km elevated corridor connecting Indira Gandhi Square to Rajiv Gandhi Square. During his visit, Gadkari will also dedicate to the nation three major national highway projects valued at over Rs 2,000 crore. Among these is the 38-km four-lane Puducherry to Poondiankuppam section of National Highway 32, developed at a cost of Rs 1,588 crore.
Additionally, improvement works on a 14-km stretch of the East Coast Road, with an investment of Rs 25 crore, are set to be launched. These initiatives are part of the central government’s ongoing efforts to boost infrastructure and connectivity in the Union Territory and surrounding regions. Officials have noted that the projects will significantly ease traffic congestion and promote regional economic development.
