Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station, at Krishnapatnam, is ready to begin commercial operations from 10 September.
The first thermal unit of the (2x800 MW) plant has been synchronised to the Power Grid on 1 April, after receiving the necessary approval from APGENCO. This power plant is being constructed on a 1,170 acre site. A major chunk (71.4 per cent) of coal will be from Mahanadi Coalfields and the remaining fuel will be sourced through imported coal.
After completion, the thermal plant is projected to generate 11,920 million units power a year; which is about 38 million units each day.
The power plant is constructed by a special purpose vehicle formed by APGENCO, the State Government and distribution companies. Navayuga Engineering Company executed the sea water works.
Public sectors BHEL, L&T and TPL are the major contractors for this unit.
