Fresh Projects Investment: April 2007
 

 

In April 2007, ProjectsToday monitored 563 new projects entailing a total investment of Rs.18,927 crore. Nearly three-fourth of the total investment planned by these projects, was by private sector. Bulk of the private investments were concentrated on 14 new power projects announced during the month.

 

During April 2007, 47 new power projects were announced with an investment of Rs.10,068 crore. The sector accounted for around half of the total investment announced during the month.

Of the 47 new power projects, two were of mega size. The first one was the coal based 1,215 MW power plant of JLD Yavatmal Energy, planned at Yavatmal in Maharashtra, and the second project was a 2,000 MW imported coal based power unit of JSW Energy, at Simar in Junagadh district of Gujarat. JSW Energy also intends to set up a 1,080 MW (8x135 MW) lignite based power unit in Rajasthan.

 

The month also saw two large cement MoUs being signed. On 05 April 2007, the Chhattisgarh government signed MoUs for ACC Ltd 's 4.05 million tpa unit and Grasim Industries' 3.5 million tpa unit. The exact locations of both these projects are yet to be finalised.

 

GAIL (India) invited EoIs on 03 April 2007, for gas pipelines on common carrier basis, at five sections. The sections are - Dadri- Bawana-Nangal Pipeline, Chainsa-Gurgaon-Jhajjar-Hissar Pipeline, Jagdishpur- Haldia Pipeline, Dabhol-Bangalore Pipeline and Kochi-Kanjirkkod- Bangalore/Mangalore Pipeline.

 

In the construction sector, around 41 new commercial complexes and shopping malls were announced across the country. In addition, ProjectsToday also collected information on 143 real estate projects, which were at different stages of development. The major project announced in Real Estate sector, was Hiranandani Upscale's first and large scale community township coming up at Old Mahabalipuram in Chennai, comprising of six buildings of 28 floors.

 

During April 2007, information on six SEZs were gathered by ProjectsToday. This includes the proposal of New Chennai Township, a SPV floated by Marg Constructions, to set up a multi-services SEZ at Seekinakuppam in Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu with an investment of Rs1,441 crore. (for further details on this project see pg. 10) Rockman Developers India announced its ambitious plans to set up three SEZs at various locations - a multi-services SEZ in Gurgaon, a multi -products SEZ in Jaipur and a textiles SEZ in Ludhiana. Jurong International, Singapore is the technical partner for these projects.
