December 2012 witnesses contracts worth Rs 16,740 crore

 

December 2012 witnessed 37 domestic as well as overseas contracts worth Rs 16,740 crore. Of the total, Power sector observed seven contracts worth Rs 5,742 crore which includes five in Coal/Lignite based power and one in Nuclear and Wind based power each. During the month, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Company secured one of the major contracts worth Rs 3,258 crore from NTPC for supply of two boilers at an upcoming power project of the company in Chhattisgarh.

 

Meanwhile, NTPC also awarded a contract worth Rs 1,548 crore to BGR Energy Systems for supply of steam turbine and generators for 2x 800 MW super thermal power project at Lara in Chhattisgarh. Another noteworthy contract worth Rs 1,242 crore was secured in Water & Sewerage Pipeline & Distribution sector was awarded by Mokul International to Shriram EPC. The scope of work involves engineering, supply and installation of a primary sanitary sewer system, storm sewer system and trunk sewer system with connected pumping stations and road works. Shriram EPC will oversee the laying of approximately 240 km of Sewer Pipe Line, 160 of Storm in Iraq. “This is our first order in the Middle East and adds to our portfolio of international projects. It is a sizeable contract for our municipal services vertical and will result in sustained revenues over the three year execution period. This is also one of the first major public infrastructure projects in Southern Iraq which aims to improve basic infrastructure in the country. Successful execution of this contract would open up new opportunities for us in Iraq,” T. Shivaraman, Managing Director & CEO of Shriram EPC.

 

In all, December 2012, noted seven overseas contracts worth Rs 3, 280 crore in Canada, Hong Kong, Iraq, Panama, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and United Arab Emirates each. Of which notable contract worth Rs 1,168 crore is awarded by Hong Kong Government to Punj Lloyd. The scope of work involves providing an important interchange between the new Shatin to Central Link and the existing Diamond Hill Station servicing the Kwun Tong Line. The order has been bagged by Punj Lloyd's subsidiary Sembawang Engineers and Constructors Pte. (Sembawang), along with consortium partner - Leader Civil Engineering Corporation have bagged a contract for metro rail project in Hong Kong. Another contract secured by Punj Lloyd is worth Rs 528 crore from Singapore Prison Service to construct the new prison headquarters of the Changi prison complex in Singapore.

 

In Panama, Tecpro Systems secured a contract from SK E&C India for design, engineering, fabrication, manufacturing, inspection, packing and supervision of erection and commissioning of coal handling & fly ash handling system for Paco power plant (2x160 MW). "We are pleased to announce that the company has received another international contract. We have seen a good traction in contract inflows even from the export market this year SKEC is amongst the top EPC companies in Korea and is involved in a number of EPC jobs in the power sector across the world. With this order from SKEC, we will now be working with two leading Korean EPC companies namely - Hyundai Rotem and SKEC. This project with SKEC for Paco Power Plant (2 x160 MW) in Panama (Central America) is a key breakthrough for us as it will catapult us into the global arena of engineering companies. This recent win will increase Tecpro’ s global presence across diversified geographies like Vietnam, Indonesia in South East Asia and Central America. This international order of coal handling and fly ash handling would further strengthen our global portfolio and we will continue to aggressively market our services and win further orders in this space going forward, “said Amul Gabrani, Vice-Chairman & Managing Director of Tecpro Systems.

 

During the month Railways sector witnessed five contracts worth Rs 2,215 crore, Roadways witnessed four contracts worth Rs 1,558 crore, Power Distribution witnessed five contracts worth Rs 1,442 crore and many more
