December sees 71 contracts worth

December 2010 showed some signs of recovery with 71 contracts worth Rs 27,822.43 crore, after a dismal show in November 2010.
While 59 were domestic contracts worth Rs 23,610.43 crore, the remaining 12 contracts worth Rs 4,212 crore were overseas contracts. The overseas contracts were bagged from countries like Oman, UAE, Saudi Arabia etc.
Punj Lloyd bagged a contract worth Rs 1,292 crore from the PTT Public Company for an onshore gas pipeline project in Thailand. L&T secured a contract worth Rs 471 crore from Oman Electricity Transmission Company for the construction of 220 kV substations in Oman. The company also bagged a road project worth Rs 716 crore from the Abu Dhabi Government for construction of four bridges in Abu Dhabi.

Power and Roadways were the top grosser during the month.
Of the total contracts, the Power sector managed to amass Rs 20,739.26 crore worth contracts. Major contract of the month worth Rs 11,250 crore was awarded by Abhijeet Group to Dongfang Electric Corporation for supply 10 sets of 660 MW supercritical units for coal based power stations. Moser Baer India gave away contract of Rs 4,100 crore to Lanco Infratech for its 2x600 MW coal based power project.
Four projects were awarded in the Roadways sector amounting to Rs 2,059.32 crore. Maytas Infra in consortium with Gayatri Projects won a contract worth Rs 1,130.67 crore from the Nagaland Government for two laning of existing stretches in the state - Longleng - Changtongya (32 km), Mon-Tamlu- Merangkong (105 km), Phek- Pfutsero (74 km) and Zunheboto-Chakabama (118 km).
L&T bagged 15 contracts worth Rs 4,550.44 crore in India and overseas. In the overseas market, the company secured five projects valued at Rs 1,703.00 crore from Gulf Cooperation Council countries in the sub-station, transmission and roadways projects.
