Domestic Order

 

Metallurgy

 

Larsen & Toubro has bagged a Rs.980 crore order from Tata Steel, to supply and install a blast furnace for its 6 mln tpa integrated steel plant in Kalinganagar Industrial Complex, at Duburi in Jajpur district of Orissa.

 

The company will supply and install a 3.2 mln tpa blast furnace as part of the project's first phase. This furnace will have a volume of 4300 cu.m and will be the largest blast furnace in Tata Steel. It is scheduled for completion within 40 months.

 

The company's scope of work covers detail engineering, supply, erection and commissioning of mechanical, electrical & instrumentation systems along with site services comprising of civil, structural & sheeting works.

 

Hindustan Dorr-Oliver bagged a Rs.30 crore order from Vedanta Alumina, for complete water in-plant water circulation, distribution piping system and compressed air piping with accessories, for its 5 mln tpa aluminium smelter plant at Jharsuguda in Orissa.

 

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) in consortium with Outotec GmbH, Germany, bagged EPC (Engineering - Procurement - Construction) orders worth Rs.1,070 crore from Tata Steel, for its 6 mln tpa integrated steel plant in Kalinganagar Industrial Complex, at Duburi in Jajpur district of Orissa. These include:

 

 
  • Supply and installation of 5.75 mln tpa sinter plant valued at Rs.836 crore. The company's share in this order is Rs.623.30 crore. The scope of work includes detail engineering, supply, erection & commissioning of mechanical, electrical & instrumentation systems, along with the site services comprising of civil & structural works & sheeting works, while Outotec Gmbh shall provide basic engineering, supply of proprietary equipment and performance guarantees. This will be the single largest sinter plant to be built in India and is scheduled for completion within 30 months.
  • L&T has also been awarded the contract for civil & structural steel works of a steel melt shop valued at Rs.233.59 crore, and is scheduled for completion within 28 months.

 

Both the orders are for the first phase of the proposed project.

 

Mineral Fuels

 

Kilburn Engineering bagged a Rs.75.3 crore order from Essar Construction India, to supply three coal drying unit systems.

 

Petroleum Products

 

Bharat Heavy Electricals bagged a Rs.413 crore EPC contract from Indian Oil Corporation, for setting up a 2xFrame-6 gas turbine-based co-generation power plant at its Gujarat refinery complex.

 

BHEL's scope of work in the project envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of two Frame-6 gas turbine generators and two heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) of 100 tonne per hour capacity, with associated auxiliaries and balance of plant, in addition to complete civil works. BHEL will commission the first unit within 23 months and the second in one month, thereafter.

 

While the gas turbine generators will be manufactured at BHEL's Hyderabad plant, the HRSGs and the state-of-the-art control system will be manufactured at the company's Trichy plant and Electronics Division, at Bangalore, respectively.

 

Larsen & Toubro bagged a Rs.542 crore order from Indian Oil Corporation, for the motor spirit quality (MSQ) upgradation unit, comprising a light atnaptha hydrotreating unit, isomerisation unit, reformer splitter, associated utilities and offside facilities (EPCC-1), to meet the Euro IV norms. The unit is located at IOC's refinery at Panipat in Haryana.

 

The order comprises of residual process design, detailed engineering, procurement, supply, transportation, storage, fabrication, inspection, construction, installation, testing, mechanical completion, precommissioning, commissioning, and performance guarantee test runs for the proposed project.

 

Petron Engineering Construction received a letter of intent (LoI) from Toyo Engineering India, for mechanical, piping and painting works for Area D & E (Part -2), for Indian Oil Corporation's naphtha cracker project at Panipat, in Haryana. The order is valued at Rs.25.29 crore.

 

Electricity

 

Elecon Engineering won a Rs.57.70 crore order from Gujarat Industrial Power Co., for design, engineering, civil and structural work, erection and commissioning of mechanical equipment, for lignite stone handling system of Gujarat Industrial Power Co's upcoming 250 MW Surat Lignite Power Plant in Gujarat.

 

ICSA India bagged a Rs.30.44 crore order from Chief General Manager / Projects, APSPDCL, Tirupati, for design, supply, transport, construction, testing, erection & commissioning of 33/11 kV sub-stations in Krishna, Guntur & Prakasam districts.

 

Larsen & Toubro has collectively bagged sub-station orders worth Rs.853 crore. These include contracts from:

 

 
  • Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority for design, supply, installation and commissioning of the two 132/22 kV sub-stations at Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi. Mott MacDonald is the consultant to the project. Each substation consists of 132 kV gas insulated switchgear, 22 kV gas insulated switchgear 63/80MVA 132/22 kV tansformers, sub-station control & monitoring system, protection & telecommunication system, DC system & auxiliaries and sub-stations. The contract also encompasses design and construction of the sub-station buildings together with the associated utilities. The contract valued at Rs.366 crore will be completed within 18 months.
  • A Rs.200 crore order from the Power Grid Corporation of India, for turnkey construction at 400/220 kV extra high voltage sub-stations. One of these major sub-stations, to be located at Gurgaon (Near Delhi), will be a 400/220 kV gas insulated sub-station. The other air insulation substations will be located at Bhinmal and Kankroli in Rajasthan and Zerda in Gujarat. The scope of work includes supply, erection testing & commissioning of 315 MVA transformers, 400 kV reactors, sub-station automation & protection system and total civil & air-conditioning works.
  • ECC's Water and Utilities group has also bagged three orders valued at Rs.287 crore.
  • Tamil Nadu Water Supply & Sewerage Board awarded a Rs.195 crore order for implementing comprehensive water supply schemes in Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai and Pudhukottai districts in Tamil Nadu. The water project in Tamil Nadu includes supply, installation, testing and commissioning of mild steel and pre-stressed concrete pipelines. Scope of work also includes construction of storage reservoirs and electromechanical works. This contract is to be completed within 18 months.
  • Delhi Jal Board (DJB) awarded a Rs.92.50 crore EPC order for design, providing, laying, jointing, testing and commissioning 22 km of the 1200 mm diameter of mild steel raw water transmission main from Wazirabad raw water pump house to proposed water treatment plant at Okhla. DJB shall be able to pump 22 MGD raw water to the water treatment plant at Okhla, which shall be distributed to Outer Delhi and South Delhi. This contract is to be completed within 20 months.

 

KEC International has bagged a Rs.130.15 crore contract from Karnataka Power Transmission Co., for design, fabrication, testing, supply, erection and commissioning a 400 kV D/C Line of length 151.15 km, in Karnataka. The project, awarded on a turnkey basis, is to be completed in December 2008.

 

OM Metals Infraprojects has secured a Rs.162 crore order from National Hydroelectric Power Corporation, for executing hydro mechanical works for two hydroelectric power projects in Himachal Pradesh. The order includes:

 

Parbati hydroelectric power project (Stage-III) in Kullu district. [contract value: Rs.96 crore].

 

Chamera hydroelectirc power project (Stage-III) in Chamba district. [contract value: Rs.66 crore].The scope of work includes designing, manufacturing, installation and commissioning hydro-mechanical works for both projects. The orders are expected to be executed during three years.

 

Era Infra Engineering (formerly named as Era Constructions (India) bagged a Rs.28.28 crore contract from Adani Power, to construct civil works, fabrication and erection of structural steel works, for the main plant building of 2x330 MW Mundra Power Project (Phase-II). The order is scheduled for completion within one year.

 

Bharat Heavy Electricals bagged a Rs.6.3 crore order from Power Grid Corporation of India, for design, development and supply of higher rating porcelain disc insulators for applications in +800 kV Ultra High Voltage Direct Current (UHVDC) Transmission Lines. The order envisages supplying 5,000 insulators, each of 420 kN and 320 kN, by May 2008.

 

Bharat Heavy Electricals bagged a Rs.1,829 crore order from Aravali Power Co., to commission the 3x500 MW Aravali super thermal power project at Jhajjar in Haryana.

 

The scope of work envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning steam generators, along with associated auxiliaries and civil works. The Tiruchi unit will supply auxiliaries such as electrostatic precipitators, fans and air pre-heaters, while the Ranipet unit will supply mills, and the Bhopal unit would supply motors. State-of-the-art control equipment will come from the Bangalore unit will supply. The northern region will undertake erection and commissioning of the equipment. Work on Unit I will be completed within 36 months from the zero date with a time gap of three months between the successive units.

 

Commercial Complex

 

DLF bagged contracts worth Rs.6,000 crore from Delhi Development Authority for an international convention, an exhibition center, hotels and an allied commercial services project at Dwarka in New Delhi.

 

Convention & Exhibition Center:

 

The centre will be designed as per the international norms comparable to Suntec Convention Center, Singapore. The project will have a built up area of around 2 mln sq.ft.

 

Hotel Complex:

 

 
  • Three hundred rooms in five-star category
  • Four hundred and fifteen rooms in mid market / business category
  • One hundred and twenty rooms serviced apartments / budget hotel
  • Total area would be 6,50,000 sq.ft

 

Commercial Complex:

 

Allied commercial facilities to complement the convention facilities covering approx 3,95,000 sq.ft including restaurants / F&B facilities, shopping malls, multiplex, commercial offices and ancillary support units.

 

Socio- Cultural Facilities:

 

Socio-cultural and community facilities, such as, convention / exhibition ancillary services block, premium boarding and lodging complex for international students / diplomats, high-end recreational club with indoor and outdoor sports facilities, global art and craft village with a cultural complex, are also proposed to be provided within the main complex covering approx 2,85,000 sq.ft.

 

Ahluwalia Contracts India has bagged four new civil construction projects, worth Rs.130 crore, during July 2007. These include:

 

 
  • A contract from Public Work Department, NCT Delhic to construct the Advocates Chamber in the District Court Complex, Saket, New Delhi. [contract value: Rs.40 crore].
  • Civil works for constructing a super specialty (Fortis) hospital at Shalimar Bagh, New Delhi [contract value: Rs.6 crore].
  • Construction of two greenfield hypermarkets (Reliance Retail Store) at Vikaspuri and Dwarka Sector-13, New Delhi. [contract value: Rs.44 crore].
  • Construction of a model bus terminal and a commercial complex at Kota, Rajasthan, on DBOT / PPP basis.

 

Water & Waste Management

 

Pratibha Industries bagged a Rs.97.78 crore order from Indore Municipal Corporation for supplying, laying, jointing, testing and commissioning two water pumping main for two water supply schemes. The project is to be executed within 12-18 months.

 

Hindustan Construction Co. bagged a Rs.415 crore contract from Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, to construct a water tunnel between Maroshi and Ruparel College in Mumbai. The tunnel will replace the old upper Vaitarna and Vaitarna mains in this section and will improve the water supply to Vakola, Mahim, Dadar and Malbar Hills. Corporation of Greater Mumbai, to execute civil works for providing and laying a 3,000 mm internal diameter M.S above ground water main including cement mortar lining from inside and allied works on Section II from Jamboli to Chinchavali in Mumbai. The contract is valued at Rs.311.96 crore.

 

Pratibha Industries has secured two contracts from Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai for water supply schemes. The total value is Rs.434.86 crore. The scope of work involves providing and laying 3,000 mm diameter M.S. pipes having a total length of 20.7 km and allied works. Both the projects are parts of Middle Vaitarna water supply project.

 

Irrigation

 

Nagarjuna Construction Co bagged two projects valued at Rs.236 crore. These include:

 

 
  • Contract awarded by Superintending Engineer, Irrigation & CAD Department, Nandyal for investigation, design, excavation and lining of Owk Tunnel - II for Feeding to Owk Reservoir from KM 57.700 of G.N.S.S. Flood Flow Canal at Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh, on EPC turnkey basis. The order is to be completed within 30 months. [contract value: Rs.200 crore].
  • The second Rs.36 crore project, has been awarded by Shriram Propertie, for construction of multi-storied apartments at Sadashivanagar in Bangalore. This project is to be completed over 16 months.

 

IVRCL Infrastructures & Projects bagged the Rs.641.39 crore contract from Irrigation & C.A.D Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh, to be executed through IVRCL-SEW-PRASAD (JV). This includes:

 

 
  • Modernisation of Bhadra Right Bank Main Canal (0-60 KM) including lining works and rehabilitating the structure awarded by Executive Engineer, No. 4, BRLBC Division, Bhadravathi, Karnataka Neeravari Nigam (KNNL). [contract value: Rs.106.82 crore].
  • Bhadra Modernisation Package No. 3 viz., modernisation of the Malebennur Branch Canal awarded by Executive Engineer, No.3 Bhadra Canal Division, Malebennur, Karnataka Neeravari Nigam (KNNL). [contract value: Rs.95.90 crore].

 

IVRCL Infrastructures & Projects bagged irrigation projects worth Rs.202.70 crore in Karnataka. These include:

 

 
  • Investigation, design and earthwork excavation of GNSS Main Canal from KM 96.50 to KM 119.00 including construction of CM & CD works and distributory system including field channels to feed an ayacut of 25,000 acres under GNSS Main Canal in Kadapa district, under Package No.3/06. [contract value: Rs.171.99 crore].
  • Investigation, design and earthwork excavation of GNSS Main Canal from KM 275.00 to KM 311.00 including construction of CM & CD work and formation of Padmasagar and its distributory system, to feed an ayacut of 5,000 acres, and formation of Srinivasasagar and its distributory system, to feed an ayacut of 4,200 acres, under GNSS Main Canal in Chittoor district under Package No.12/06. [contract value: Rs.189 crore].
  • Investigation, design and formation of Vepagunta Reservoir, Adavikothur Reservoir, Earthwork and excavation of GNSS Main Canal, from KM 311.00 to KM 334.00, and construction of CM & CD works and distributory system, to feed an ayacut of 5000 acres under Vepagunta Reservoir and 10,000 acres under Adavikothur Reservoir GNSS Main Canal in Chittoor district under Package No.14/06. [contract value: Rs.124.20 crore].
  • Indira Sagar Lift Irrigation Project (Polavaram) under Package No.31 for laying pressure mains from Bandarugudem tank to Arlapenta cistern including surge protection against transcient, approach channel of length 50 m from Bandarugudem tank. Refilling the trench to lay pressure main Bandarugudem tank to Arlapenta cistern and service the road along with pressure main. [contract value: Rs.156.20 crore].

 

Overseas Order

 

Chemicals (incl rubber, fertilisers)

 

Dayim Punj Lloyd Construction Contracting Co., a JV company of Punj Lloyd, secured its first order worth $79 million from Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Co., (SABIC) in KSA.

 

Under the contract, Dayim Punj Lloyd, will construct eight tanks, on EPC basis, for DM water, fire / service water, MEG and crude storage and one sphere for mixed butanes storage for offsite and utility of Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Complex at Jubail Industrial city, KSA.

 

The scope of work includes blast overpressure design for five tanks, and FEA analysis for large bore nozzles for two tanks. Dayim Punj Lloyd will be constructing the largest tank - 71 dia x18m high, cone roof carbon steel, apart from three tanks of stainless steel 304L, with a maximum size of 40.5M dia x 18 high, cone roof. Project work is scheduled to be completed by January 2009.

 

Petroleum Products

 

Larsen & Toubro has recently secured contracts worth $177.75 million for different projects in the hydrocarbon sector in the gulf region. These include contracts from:

 

 
  • Technip through international bidding for manufacture and supply of 10 no. pre-assembled process modules for handling & processing of gas. The order is valued at $44.95 million. These modules will be installed for Abu Dhabi Gas Liquefaction Co (ADGAS) an Das Island, Abu Dhabi. The delivery of the modules is to be completed within 18 months.
  • ENOC processing company at Dubai, for a naptha hydrotreater and reformer unit valued at $51.6 million. This project is scheduled to be completed within 16 months time.
  • In Qatar, the company secured a contract from Pearl GTL Project Package C5 - liquid processing unit (LPU) valued at $36.4 million from the Qatar Petroleum / Shell JV company. Time frame to complete this project is 29 months.

 

Electricity

 

Areva's transmission and distribution division has bagged a turnkey contract to build an electricity supply system for Alcan's new AP50 plant located in Quebec, Canada. The AP50 plant will operate at 500 kilo amperes (kA) and will produce a projected 60,000 tpa of primary aluminium. The company expects to complete the delivery of the supply system to be built at a cost of about Rs.550 crore (100 million euros) by September 2009.

 

KEC International has bagged two contracts valuing to Rs.176 crore, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi, UAE. The details of the orders are as follows:

 

Saudi Electricity Company in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia awarded a $23.4 million (Rs.95 crore) contract for supply, erection, installation and commissioning of a 380 kV transmission line in Riyadh, comprising of a total distance of 53 km.

 

Abu Dhabi Transmission and Despatch Company (TRANSCO) awarded a $20 million (Rs.81 crore) contract involving supply, erection, installation and commissioning of 400 kV transmission lines from Taweelah substation to Yas Island, and from Bahia sub-station to Yas Island, equaling to a total of 40 km.

 

Aviation Infrastructure

 

GMR Infrastructure consortium won the contract for the Sjabiha Gokeen International Airport (SGA), at Istanbul in Turkey GMR has a 40 per cent stake in the project, Limak lnsaat Sanayi San Ve Tic A S Turkey (Limak) holds another 40 per cent and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) holds the balance 20 per cent.

 

The project to be developed on build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis, involves construction of a new international airport terminal with a 10 mln capacity, within 30 months, besides managing the existing domestic and international terminals (with a passenger capacity of 35 mln per annum). The current international terminal will be converted to an all domestic terminal, subsequent to construction of the new terminal.

 

The BOT concession will be for 20 years, while the new international terminal is likely to be constructed within 30 months from the transfer of the facility.

 

Irrigation

 

Patel Engineering has bagged a $153 million order from Agence Nationale Des Barrage EtTransferts (ANBT - Algeria), for its detailed design and construction of the dam considered under the project - Travaux De Construction Du Barrage De Mehouane Sur L'oued El-Guessar (Mehouane Dam). The project is a JV with As-ka Insaat Construction Co., a Turkey based company.
