In January 2008, ProjectsToday collected
information on 55 project related contracts and
orders for supplies, that were awarded across
different sectors. The total worth of activities was
around Rs. 20,975 crore. Of the 55 contracts, nine
were overseas orders bagged by Indian
companies..
Of the nine overseas contracts, the largest was a
Rs.2,871.5 crore order awarded by Kahramaa, the
Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation,
to Areva T&D India who will have to deliver 14
gas insulated sub-stations (GIS1) to develop and
improve the network in the Doha region.

Larsen & Toubro saw its order book swelling
further during January 2008. The engineering
giant bagged three overseas contracts. Two
encompassed building an electrical grid and
electrical sub-station, respectively, while the third
was for manufacture and supply of 22
hydrocracker and atmospheric residue desulphurisation reactors for Kuwait National
Petroleum Co.'s Clean Fuel Project 2020. The
aggregate value of the three contracts was worth
Rs. 2,563 crore.
In the domestic circuit sizeable contracts were
awarded in the Oil & Gas, Coal-based Power, Real
Estate, Roadways and Water Supply Schemes
sectors. In terms of number of awards, the Power
sector (including power distribution) saw the
highest number of contracts being finalised. In all,
eight contracts worth Rs.4,119 crore were
awarded.
The Petroleum Oil & Gas exploration and refining
sector together saw four contracts worth Rs.4,770
crore, being awarded. Among these, the largest
contract worth Rs.2,702 crore was awarded to
Ramunia Holdings Bhd, Malaysia, for design,
engineering and installation works of ONGC's
cluster field in the Heera-Panna-Bassein block of
Mumbai Offshore basin.
The Real Estate sector along with Commercial
Complexes witnessed three contracts worth
Rs.2,147.5 crore being awarded during January
2008. Of these, the largest work contract being
worth Rs.2,000 crore was bagged by L&T.
Kingston Properties awarded this contract to L&T
for construction of various office and residential
buildings in Mumbai.
In the Water Supply sector, six contracts totaling
to Rs.1,008 crore were awarded, of which, the
biggest contract was worth Rs.340 crore and was
awarded to Degremont Suez for commissioning
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's 990 MLD
water treatment plant under the Middle Vaitarna
Project at Bhandup in Thane.
In the Roadways sector, a total of seven contracts
were finalised. Of these, four were by the
Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai.
However, the largest contract was bagged by IRB
Infrastructure Developers from NHAI, to develop
the 239 km Surat-Dahisar section of the NHDPPhase-
V.
