Domestic Contracts pacing up
Electricity sector finalises 22 contracts

 

February 2009, saw more domestic contracts been assigned than in January 2009. As against 44 contracts worth Rs.18,085 crore awarded in January, 53 contracts worth Rs.20,659.84 crore were awarded by Indian companies in February 2009. In addition to this, the month also saw three overseas contracts with an aggregate value of Rs.1,172.85 crore being bagged by Indian companies.

 

Larsen and Toubro (L&T) bagged two contracts worth Rs.800 crore and Rs.330 crore. The first one was awarded by Al Ain Distribution Company for the construction of seven electrical substations, associated MW cabling and overhead transmission line in the Al Ain city of Abu Dhabi.

 

The second contract was bagged from Abu Dhabi Distribution Company for design, supply & construction of 300 km of kV transmission line network in the western region of Abu Dhabi. In the domestic sector, in terms of contract value, the Petroleum products sector topped the table.

The sector, witnessed three large contracts with an aggregate value of Rs.6,872.55 crore being awarded during the month. The Linde Group in partnership with Samsung Engineering bagged the largest contract worth Rs.6,800 crore from the Oil & Natural Gas Corporation for setting up a dual feed cracker unit at mega petrochemical project at Dahej in Gujarat. Petron Engineering Construction won two contracts from HPCL-Mittal Energy worth Rs.43.25 crore and Rs.29.30 crore.

 

Power sector, which was the leading sector for the past few months was pushed down to second position with a total of 22 contracts being awarded aggregating to Rs.5,824.48 crore.

 

In the Power sector, Tata Projects bagged the largest contract valued at Rs.2,780 crore from Andhra Pradesh Power Development Company. L&T won three power contracts. Of which, two were overseas. In the domestic circuit, the company, won a Rs.308 crore contract from West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company for executing the rural electrification works in Jalpaiguri & North 24-Parganas districts of West Bengal.

 

Three contracts amounting to Rs.2,717.60 crore were awarded in the irrigation sector. All the three contracts were awarded by the Irrigation department of Government of Andhra Pradesh.

 

Of the three contracts, Gayatri-Ratna won two contracts valued at Rs.1,360.26 crore and Rs.771.36 crore. The contracts are for the construction of 182 km-206 km tail pond link canal from Tirumalagiri on NH-9 upto the road connecting Malkapatnamin and another canal from Malkapatnam and Salakanoor to Salakanoorin in the Dummugudem - Nagarjuna Sagar project.

 

Subhash Projects along with SEW Constructions and AMR Construction bagged the third contract worth Rs.585.98 crore for investigation, design and execution of water conveyor system consisting of land gravity canal of the Tipparam-Chityal Canal Reach I of Pranahita-Chevella Lift Irrigation Scheme.
