Domestic Power sector awarded nine contracts |

In the month of October 2008, ProjectsToday gathered information on 41 domestic and international contracts totaling to Rs.14,880.91 crore.
The largest overseas contract worth $500 million (approx Rs.2,300 crore) was bagged by Moser Baer India from Europe's largest system integrators Ralos Vertriebs and Colexon Energy, to supply solar modules. Another overseas contract worth $5.2 million (approx Rs.24 crore) was bagged by Sterlite Technologies, for supplying its fiber optic cables for deployment by telecom incumbents in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Among the domestic contracts awarded in October 2008, the Irrigation sector saw four contracts totaling to Rs.4,414.23 crore. The larger of the four contracts awarded, was the Rs.1,928 crore contract bagged by HCC-MEIL-BHEL JV for investigation, design and execution of lift irrigation scheme of drawal /lifting of 88.24 TMC of water of Mid Manar reservoir to new reservoir at Anantagiri village. The project was awarded by Government of Andhra Pradesh, Irrigation & CAD Department. SCL-INDU-KBL-WEG, a JV formed by Kirloskar Brothers bagged the second largest irrigation contract worth Rs.1,446 crore from Andhra Pradesh Government for the Pranahitha-Chevella lift Irrigation Scheme-Link VII-Package No.22.
In the Power Sector, nine contracts totaling to Rs.4,110.80 crore were awarded, which included the Rs.1,474 crore contract bagged by Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) to set up 1,320 MW supercritical steam turbine generator package at Barh thermal power project in Patna. The contract was awarded by NTPC. BHEL also bagged a Rs.641 crore contract from Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam, for setting up a 412 MW Rampur hydro electric plant in Himachal Pradesh.
The Airways sector witnessed five contracts totaling to Rs.1,434 crore being awarded. Airports Authority of India awarded a Rs.1,321 crore contract to Chennai headquarted Consolidated Constructions Consortium for expansion of Chennai airport terminal, Chennai airport's cargo terminal and Thiruvananthapuram airport terminal. Another major contract worth Rs.113.02 crore was bagged by KMB-ERA JV, formed by Era Infra Engineering in association with Kyivmetrobud, Ukraine for the construction of a new expandable modular integrated terminal building at Devi Ahilya Bal Holkar Airport at Indore in Madhya Pradesh.
In the Mineral Fuels sector, Jindal Drilling & Industries bagged $165 million contract (about Rs.810 crore) for leasing its rig to Oil & Natural Gas Corporation. The rig has been contracted for three years and the contract is effective from 15 October 2008.
