In the month of April 2012,
NTPC awarded six
contracts worth Rs. 4,177.94
crore to various entities in the Power
sector. During the month, the
company finalised suppliers for
supercritical equipments for its
power project in India.

The prominent among the contracts
awarded were the ones given to BGR
Energy Systems and Alstom India-
Bharat Forge JV for its upcoming 2x660
MW Solapur thermal power project in
Maharashtra. The Rs. 1,855 crore
contract has been awarded to BGR
Boilers for supply of 2 x 660 MW
supercritical boilers and another worth
Rs. 1,570 crore has gone to Alstom India-
Bharat Forge JV for engineering,
manufacturing, supply, erection and
commissioning of 2x660MW
supercritical steam 'turbine generator
islands' (TG Islands) for its upcoming
thermal power project at Solapur in
Maharashtra. "This order is a
breakthrough of great significance to
the company as we enter Supercritical
power equipment space with first
contract from NTPC, the largest utility
in India and reputed for stringent technical and quality standards. We
would be executing this contract in
collaboration with Hitachi Power
Europe, Germany and BGR Boilers,"
said B G Raghupathy, Chairman &
Managing Director, BGR Energy.
This apart, the company has
awarded two contracts to IVRCL for
civil structural works at Solapur and
Nagpur thermal power projects.
McNally Bharat Engineering
Company has also bagged a contract
worth Rs. 22.87 crore for supply and
inland transportation, insurance,
installation, testing, commissioning
and guarantee tests of pre-treatment
plant package for Mouda super
thermal power project, Stage II (2 x
660 MW) in Nagpur district.
Among the sectors, the Roadways
sector secured maximum of ten
contracts worth Rs. 5,942 crore.
During the month, the NHAI has
awarded three contracts
aggregating to Rs. 2,127 crore. The
company has awarded six laning of
Gundugolonu to Rajahmundry
section of NH-5 to IVRCL Assets and
Holdings and four laning of
Punjab/ Haryana Border - Jind
Section of NH- 71 to Unity
Infraprojects. Apart from this, IVRCL
Assets has won another order from
Public Works Department,
Government of Punjab, for four
laning of Patiala to Bathinda
section of NH -64 on BOT basis.
During the month, 47 contracts worth
Rs. 13,850 crore were awarded in
domestic and overseas segments.
Among these, 44 contracts worth
Rs. 13,850 crore were awarded in the
domestic shore. Three contracts were
bagged by Punj Lloyd, Sino Oil
Investment Corporation and Enterprise
Products Partners L.P. Punj Lloyd has
bagged a contract from Horizon
Terminals, an Emirates National Oil
Company (ENOC) subsidiary, to build a
bulk oil terminal. The terminal inside
the Jebel Ali Free Zone, along with a 60
km jet fuel pipeline to the Dubai
International Airport, will have state-ofthe-
art oil terminal facilities with
storage tanks capacity of 1,41,000
cubic mtrs.
During the month, the Rajasthan Rajya
Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (RRVUNL)
scrapped EPC tenders worth Rs. 12,000
crore that were bagged by BHEL more
than a year ago for two 660 MW units
- each for Suratgarh and Chhabra,
respectively, without specifying any
particular reasons. The tenders were
for design, engineering, manufacture,
assembly, testing at works, supply, civil
structural and architectural works,
erection, testing and commissioning
of main plant and balance of plant on
EPC basis. |
