During February 2012, NTPC alone awarded
contracts worth Rs 8,803 crore for supercritical
boilers and steam turbines thus accounting for 36
per cent share in the total orders awarded. A total of 67
contracts worth Rs 24,239 crore were awarded in the
domestic and foreign shores during the month.

Power sector with 13 contracts worth Rs 9,789 crore was the
top drawer of the month. NTPC awarded a contract worth
Rs 6,500 crore to BGR Boilers for supply of 11x660 MW
supercritical boilers for the following five projects viz., (a)
Mouda super thermal power project, Stage II (2 x 660 MW)
(b) Solapur super thermal power project (2 x 660 MW) (c)
Nabinagar super thermal power project (3 x 660 MW) (d)
Meja thermal power project (2 x 660 MW) (e) Raghunathpur
thermal power project, Phase II (2 x 660 MW). Also, NTPC
has awarded a contract worth Rs 2,303 crore to Toshiba JSW
Steam Turbine Generation for supply of three 800 MW supercritical steam turbine and generator island packages
for the Kudigi super thermal power project, Stage I (3 x 800
MW) in Karnataka.
Apart from this, the Solar power segment accounted for six
contracts worth Rs 950 crore and the Gas based power
segment received orders worth Rs 5 crore. Welspun Energy
Park has secured an order worth Rs 950 crore from the
Andhra Pradesh Government to construct, operate and
maintain the 100 MW solar power plant in Anantapur in the
state. "With our fresh commitments we embark on our next
phase of developing 250 MW solar power projects in 2012-

Amongst the top drawers of the month, Roadways sector
was at the second spot with 11 contracts worth Rs 8,212 crore followed by Railways sector with seven
contracts and Water & Sewerage
Pipeline & Distribution and Water,
Sewage & Effluent Treatment receiving
four contracts each. In the Roadways
sector, L&T secured a major contract
worth Rs 1,937 crore from GVK Infratech
for four laning of a major portion of
Shivpuri - Dewas section of NH-3 in
Madhya Pradesh totalling 235 km
under NHDP Phase IV. Along with this,
L&T will also implement a contract
worth Rs 1,048 crore of West Bengal
Government for constructing a four
lane elevated corridor under JNNURM
along Kazi Nazrul Islam Sarani in the
North 24 Parganas in the state.
The Water & Sewerage Pipeline &
Distribution accounted for four
contracts worth Rs 459.06 crore. In the
sector, L&T secured a contract worth
Rs 348 crore from Gujarat Water
Infrastructure for providing, supplying,
lowering, joining, and commissioning
of bulk water transmission system by
M. S. pipeline at Surendranagar and
Junagadh district in Gujarat under
Swarnim Gujarat Saurashtra-Kutch
Water Grid Programme. The remaining
three contracts in the sector have
been secured by IVRCL Assets &
Holdings.
Of the total contracts, two overseas
contracts worth Rs 311.6 crore were
secured in Bangladesh and Morocco.
Siemens secured a contract in the
Power Distribution sector worth Rs 86.60
crore from Bangladesh Power
Development Board for construction of six new 33/11kV
substations and upgradation of 14 similar substations in
Bangladesh. Another contract was received by Steel Strips
Wheels (SSWL) from Renault Nissan Automotive India. The
contract worth Rs 225 crore is secured for supply of exclusive
platform of steel wheel rims for Renault-Nissan's Morocco
plant. Meanwhile, SSWL is also setting up wheel
manufacturing facility in Morocco.
