November witnesses 69 contract
awards worth Rs. 14,946.77 cr

 

 

November viewed a steep decline in number and a steeper drop in value of contracts, relative to the preceding month that had seen record contracting volume. A total of 69 contracts worth Rs. 14,946.77 crore were awarded during the month - against 90 contracts worth Rs. 72,243 crore in October. The compilation is based on number of tenders awarded and the value of job work (wherever the requisite information is available).

 

The number included 10 contracts bagged from countries like Oman, UAE, Libya etc. L&T in partnership with the Galfar Engineering & Contracting SAOG received a Rs. 3,411.56 crore contract for the construction of a new terminal building covering an area of 71,000 sq mtrs, four km-long runway, control tower, apron and hangar at the Salalah airport.

 

REpower Systems AG, a subsidiary of Suzlon Energy, secured four contracts for supply of wind turbines: C-Power from Belgium gave contract for production and delivery of nacelles, towers, blades and hubs in the port of Oostende; Sweden's Fred Olsen Renewables AB awarded contract for delivery of three REpower MM92 turbines at Kiaby wind farm project near Kristianstad in the Skane province; and Energiekontor, UK, gave two contracts for supply of turbines at wind farms at Withernwick in Yorkshire and Hyndburn in Lancashire.

 

Sectors Power;

 

Roadways; and Petroleum refineries were the top three sectors in terms of contracts during November. The Power sector saw 24 contracts worth Rs. 3,988.77 crore being awarded. Techpro Systems was given a Rs. 1,255-crore contract by the Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation for the Balance of Plant works for the Rayalaseema thermal power project. NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam awarded a contract to Megha Engineering & Infrastructures to build, own, and operate a 50 MW solar plant in Andhra Pradesh under the Phase I of the JNNSM.

A total of seven road projects amounting to Rs. 2,782.07 crore were awarded during the month. IL&FS Transportation Networks clinched a Rs. 2,519- crore contract from the NHAI. The scope of work included rehabilitation, strengthening and fourlaning of Chenani to Nashri section of NH-1A from Km 89.00 to Km 130.00 (New Alignment) including 9 km-long tunnel (two-lane) with parallel escape tunnel, in Jammu & Kashmir.

 

In the Petroleum Refinery section, four contracts worth Rs. 2,773 crore were awarded. Essar Projects India got a contract valued at Rs. 1400 crore from the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC). It was a lumpsum turnkey project (Package A) for the main refinery units of IOC's 15 million tpa refinery in Paradip, Orissa. IOC also handed out a contract for setting up an Effluent Treatment Plant facility at Paradip refinery to Va Tech Wabag.
