Roadways Sector top gainer in February

The month of February 2010 saw a total of 66 contracts worth Rs 18,762.88 crore being secured by India based companies. Of these, nine contracts are to be executed in foreign countries.
Jaihind Projects in collaboration with Arabian Pipeline Projects Company bagged a contract worth Rs 1,100 crore from Saline Water Conversion Corporation, Riyadh, for the execution of the water transmission system from Taif to Al Baha in Saudi Arabia. Punatsangchhu-I Hydro Electric Project Authority awarded a Rs 1,000 crore contract to BHEL for the electro-mechanical equipment package for a 1,200 MW hydroelectric project in Bhutan.
The Roadways sector piping the Power Sector, emerged the frontrunner in February with 10 projects worth Rs 7,389.84 crore. NHAI awarded seven road projects worth a total Rs 6,910 crore. Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) bagged three contracts worth Rs 2,860 crore for four-laning of Behrampore-Farakka section, Raniganj-Dalkhola and Farakka-Raniganj on NH-34 in West Bengal. GMR Infrastructure and Oriental Structural Engineers together secured a contract valued at Rs 1,700 crore for designing, engineering, finance, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance of the Hungund-Hospet section in Karnataka. A Rs 1,225 crore contract was bagged by Sadbhav Engineering-MCL JV for the four-laning of Bijapur-Hungund section of NH-13 in Karnataka.
The Electricity and Power Distribution sector in tandem amassed 19 contracts worth Rs 5,154 crore. The major contract worth Rs 2,761 crore was awarded to BHEL and HCC by NHPC. The scope of work includes setting up 330 MW Kishanganga hydro electric project in Jammu & Kashmir.

Electrical & Gulf Projects Operating Company, an L&T group company, bagged three orders worth Rs 315 crore. Tamil Nadu Electricity Board gave a contract for turnkey construction of 37 km of 400 kV multicircuit transmission line. Crompton Greaves conferred a contract for construction of 765/400 kV Air Insulated Substation at Uimao for Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation. Meanwhile, the contract for construction of 400/220 kV indoor type gas insulated switchyard at 2x500 MW NTPL Power Project, Tuticorin, was awarded by NLC Tamil Nadu Power.
Some of the other prominent contracts bagged in the month include L&T's Rs 2,155 crore contract for Ammonia Feedstock Conversion projects at Panipat (Haryana) and Bathinda (Punjab), which was awarded by National Fetilizers; and a Rs 500 crore contract also bagged by L&T from Raghuleela Lessors & Developers for construction of a residential tower 'The Address' at Ghatkopar, Mumbai.
