Roadways bags maximum contracts

During December 2011, Roadways sector topped all the sectors with 20 contracts worth Rs 9,728 crore, followed by the Power Distribution sector with eight contracts worth Rs 4,492 crore.
In the Roadways sector, L&T secured a major contract worth Rs 2,164 crore from GMR Infrastructure for six laning of Kishangarh Udaipur Ahmedabad highway. Meanwhile, Ramky Infrastructure has bagged two contracts worth Rs 2,241 crore from the NHAI for the widening of road in Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. In Karnataka, the scope of work includes the four laning of Hospet-Chitradurga section of NH-13 from Km 299.00 to Km 418.60 under NHDP Phase III on DBFOT/BOT basis in BOT (Toll), whereas six laning of Agra-Etawah Bypass section of NH- 2 from Km 199.660 to Km 323 under NHDP Phase V is to be carried out in Uttar Pradesh on BOT (Toll) on DBFOT pattern. Also, Era Infra Engineering has received a contract worth Rs 1,025.00 from the NHAI for four laning of Rampur-Kathgodam Section of NH-87 from Km 0.000 (KM 190.106 of NH-24) to Km 88.00 (Design Chainage Km 93.226) in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand under NHDP Phase III on DBFOT Toll basis. Other than this, the Power Distribution sector secured eight contracts worth Rs 4,492 crore for various works. BHEL along with ABB has bagged a contract worth Rs 4,000 crore from PGCIL for Ultra High-Voltage Direct Current (UHVDC) Transmission engineering, supply, installation and commissioning of the 765 kV and 400 kV.

BHEL has received an another contract worth Rs 40 crore from Arcelor-Mittal India for design, engineering, manufacture, supply and supervision of erection and commissioning of 27 MW STG Package, including the stateof- the-art Controls and Instrumentation (C&I) in Ukraine. BS Transcomm has bagged various contracts worth Rs 244 crore from various companies such as Chhattisgarh State Power Transmission Company, PGCIL and Raichur Sholapur Transmission Company. McNally Bharat Engineering Company has bagged three contracts worth Rs 117 crore in the Power sector from Neyveli Lignite Corporation, Jhabua Power and Durgapur Projects.
L&T bagged a total of nine contracts aggregating Rs 4,050 crore across system to supply hydro power from the mountainous North- East region to Agra region in Uttar Pradesh under North-East Agra transmission project. The UHVDC link, operating at 800 kilovolts (kV) will have a converter capacity of 8,000 MW. When operating at full capacity, it will have the means to supply electricity to 90 million people based on the present figures for average national consumption.

Having introduced several new technologies to the country, including HVDC and successfully executed several subsequent projects, we are proud to have been awarded this landmark order that will set new global benchmarks," said Bazmi Husain, Country Manager and MD of ABB in India. The system will be the world's fiRs t multi-terminal Ultra-High Voltage Link and will have three converter stations. 0The system will have two "sending" stations and will convert power from alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) for transmission over a single power line and deliver electricity to a third "receiving" station in Agra where it will be converted back to AC for distribution to end useRs . The power link will pass through the so called "chicken neck area" - a very narrow patch of land (22 km wide x 18 km long) in the state of West Bengal, which bordeRs Nepal and Bangladesh. Also, ABB has received another contract worth Rs 175 crore from PGCIL for design, domestic and oveRs eas markets. On the international front, the company secured a contract valued Rs 200 crore from the Tatweer Petroleum in Bahrain for electrical projects. Also, L&T has received three contracts in the Real Estate sector worth Rs 579 crore from Omkar RealtoRs & DevelopeRs for the complete rehabilitation of slum dwelleRs in Mumbai. Besides, on the oveRs eas shores, Punj Lloyd in JV with Intex Construction will implement Rs 285 crore 62 km Loruk-Barpelo road project for the Kenya National Highway Authority.
The month of December 2011, accounted for 60 contracts worth Rs 18,537 crore. While 56 were domestic contracts worth Rs 18,012 crore, remaining four worth Rs 525 crore were oveRs eas contracts bagged from countries like Bahrain, Germany, Kenya, and Ukraine.
